Our Story
FROM FIELD TO FLAVOUR
Our history is embedded within who we are today. Malteurop prides itself in being farmer-owned. With roots that blend between Europe and Australia, we’re known for our dedication and passion for malt – and our award-winning clientele. We believe in top-notch service, ambitious pricing, and a whole lot of love and precious time put towards our premium craft malt products. Although our progression over the years has been one of growth and advancing efficiencies, the entire story of Malteurop is rich and deep with history.
Rewind back to 1960 when the first malthouse was built in Port Colbert, Reims, France. The value of Barley was an investment worth taking for Providence Agricole Cooperative. They built their first malthouse in 1961. Several other cooperatives in north-east France soon swelled the ranks of Providence Agricole and the malt house was progressively expanded. In 1975, a second plant was built in Pringy, in the Marne department. At that point, the total output of these two plants was 93,000 tonnes of malt.
Union Providence Malt was founded in 1977 through the merger of some 15 cooperatives. A series of acquisitions of private malt houses by the cooperatives followed in the early 1980s, with the acquisition of S.A. Moselle in Metz and S.A. Vandecastelle in Aire-sur-la-Lys.
It wasn’t until 1984 when Union Providence Malt and Union Champagne Malt merged and became Malteurop.
With a malthouse in Geelong, Victoria since 1998 – Malteurop has found its base in Australia. Distributing to some of the best breweries and distillers in the world.
We love our customers, we’re obsessed over malt, and appreciate a good beer when the working day is done. Let us show you how dedicated we are. Think of Malteurop the next time you think about malt.
